How Pineywoods Community Academy implemented cloud to enhance student and staff safeguarding

The requirement

Pineywoods Community Academy is a charter school in Lufkin, Texas, catering to students from elementary through to high school. With a commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for its students and staff, the school uses a mix of analog and IP cameras across multiple buildings.

Pineywoods Community Academy were looking to streamline their surveillance operations by integrating all their cameras into a unified, cloud-based solution. The existing setup consisted of 54 analog lines connected to two Hikvision DVRs, which were challenging to access over the local network. With plans to open a new building nearby, the school needed to simplify the management of their surveillance footage through a centralized, cloud-based platform.

After thorough research and comparison, Pineywoods identified Videoloft as the preferred solution over competitors like Eagle Eye, Meraki and Verkada. This decision was influenced by Videoloft’s simplicity, affordability and broad compatibility, which eliminated the need for costly camera replacements.

With a total of 116 cameras at 2MP resolution, Videoloft was integrated into their existing system. Initially requesting 7 days cloud storage, Pineywoods extended this to 30 days after seeing the benefits – highlighting the flexibility of the system. Videoloft also incorporated Pineywood’s requested features to customize the platform to work better for them.

The result

Following the introduction of Videoloft, Pineywoods school quickly noticed positive changes. Beyond the obvious safety and safeguarding benefits, Videoloft provided an efficient solution for staff members to access footage from their various buildings, and offsite,  all in one central platform. This meant that instead of having to check multiple systems for video recordings, everything they needed was accessible from a single interface. This not only saves time, but also improved their ability to monitor and respond to incidents or events across the school premises.
