National Networks

Case study: National Networks & Videoloft

National Networks is a US based Managed Services Provider who primarily offer managed IT and technology solutions. They also provide physical security solutions (CCTV installations and access control solutions) to their customers. They serve a variety of sectors such as healthcare, local governments, and property asset management.

National Networks noticed that businesses are beginning to accept cloud storage as a superior solution to traditional local storage in terms of reliability, security, economy, and ability to scale according to their needs. Companies have been transitioning away from making large financial investments in their own hardware. Therefore, National Networks have instead started to favor IT & technology solutions that function like a service that can be tailored to their customers needs with little or no upfront costs and an affordable monthly fee.

They believed that the video surveillance industry was in a prime position to move in the same direction given advances in cloud technology. Therefore, they decided they would no longer offer onsite recorders, as they are another piece of hardware that depreciates, requires maintenance and can malfunction resulting in costly repairs. Instead, they would only utilize cloud video storage moving forward.

However, it wasn't proving to be cost effective for SMBs and required more IT expertise than their camera installers were comfortable with. They attended a security trade show hoping to find a cloud storage provider that could meet their technical and financial expectations, and that is where they discovered Videoloft.

They take a lease-based approach to their security solution whereby the hardware is effectively rented to the customer and Videoloft is paid for on a monthly basis. That monthly service fee also covers customers for all maintenance and software upgrades. Their customers prefer this approach, as it gives them peace of mind that they won’t get any unexpected large bills. While National Networks make an initial investment in the hardware that they lease, they quickly return a profit given the lengths of their customer contracts.

National Networks have found that Videoloft has been the ideal cloud video surveillance solution regardless of the type of customer they’ve offered the solution to. Their customers haven’t missed their local recorder and their technicians found the Videoloft Cloud Adapter simple to install. For example, one of their customers is a small police department who needed a video surveillance solution to help them provide better security for their guards and inmates in and around the small correctional facility they operate. A different customer, a commercial lawn care company, uses Videoloft to monitor their employees’ safety as they load and unload lawn equipment around their facility and the use of company vehicles as they enter and exit at the beginning and end of each workday. Another example is a marine freight transport company who utilize Videoloft to monitor traffic coming in and out of the compound, long term parking security, and the safety and security of employees, guests, and assets within the building.

Despite these varied use cases, National Networks’ customers all agree on one thing.“All of our clients really like how easy it is to view and download videos using their mobile device,” explained Marcus Edwards, VP of Cabling Infrastructure.
